Expressions of Interest: State Commissioner 


Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT is calling for Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified candidates for the role of State Commissioner, to commence in May 2024. 

The position of State Commissioner has been reviewed to improve the focus of the role and the volunteer time requirement to carry out this responsibility. 

This is outlined in the State Commissioner position description  and encompasses: 
  • the duties of State Commissioner as set out in the Constitution  (Clauses 7.3, 7.12, 8.3, 8.5, 9.2, 9.7 and 12); 
  • represent Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT at relevant conferences and gatherings both internal and external to the organisation, 
  • serve as Director on the Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT Board, and; 
  • the option of representing Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT as a Director of the Board of Girl Guides Australia. 

The State Commissioner role is integral to the delivery of our purpose to empower girls and young women to discover their potential as leaders of their world and the strategic plan which now includes a People and Culture pillar. This role will work closely with the Board, CEO and Guiding and staff senior leadership teams to drive positive outcomes. 

To be eligible to nominate for the role you must be nominated by two other Adult Members of Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT, have been a Member of Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT for a minimum of three (3) years, have made the Promise and not be the incumbent State Commissioner. 

Nominations close on 19 February 2024 at 5.00pm. Applications should consist of a completed nomination form and resume (up to 4 pages). If you are successful in being short listed, you will be required to participate in interviews and to present an audio-visual presentation (no more than 15 minutes) at an online face-to-face Board meeting in March 2024. 

The incoming State Commissioner elect has the opportunity to be mentored by the current State Commissioner, with her term formally commencing in May 2024.
